Reality Television Shows

What is the point of Reality shows? I know what they are, but I'm trying to figure out the entertainment purpose. For instance, you see all these commercials for the bachelor, bachelorrete, A shot at Love with Tequilla, and various other things for shows that are taking place on television. First off, how can anyone fall in love infront of a camera, and while dating more than one individual. I don't understand why that would be entertaining or even realistic.
It is shocking that they can even consider it true reality. The movie titled, "The Truman Show" while a terrible movie, was about a man whom was video taped all his life and did not know that he was being taped or watched. That was a good example of reality. While the presentation of the movie and story line were to be desired that was an example of what reality t.v. should look like.
I am not saying we should lock people in biodomes and control their lives, but if you want to have a reality show it has to be closer to that. The people need to not realize that they are on television. Not to mention the selection of reality shows needs to change. Cable and networks need to stop putting on junk.
You can't possibly tell me it's realistic for people to want to date and compete for the same person. It really is sick and twisted. I won't watch that filth ever. I wish it wouldn't block out more Law and Order shows. I at least appreciate the writings for the SVU series. This is not for kids, but it's great. Infact the spin off I think is doing better than the straight up Law and Order. This usually isn't the case. Well g2g it is almost 12pm. I teach tomorrow and I will fall asleep because my allergies have me sleeping and waking at weird hours.
