I will have to admit that allergies are like my worst enemy. I love the temperature and the activities that surround summer, but it causes me to walk around feeling like I have a constant low grade fever with a head cold. My eyes are watery, my nose is stuffed, itchy, and sore, my throat is dry and hurts, and my head feels like it is a water balloon ready to burst on me. I know I could possibly be sick.
My facilitator at work looked at me and said "why are you here? You sound horrible." I had to explain that it was allergies causing the severe puffy and watery eyes. I was lucky my eyes weren't swollen shut. I've only had that happen twice. Fresh cut grass does that to me and trust me it is not a pretty sight. I remember the first time it happened.
I was in high school and like the Ertel -in me (Mom's side of the family's name) I had fallen asleep watching some television show. The show wasn't memorable. I woke up, but with only half sight. I couldn't tell that my eye was swollen shut, just that I couldn't see. I was freaking because I never experienced this. My mom ran into the room and was like "What did you do to your eye?" "Sleep". It turns out that another side effect of allergies is eyes swelling to unusual sizes is a symptom of allergies.
I use to do allergy shots, which I find don't give me severe headaches and bloody nose, but at school I left the medication in my pocket and never went back to my family allergist for a refill. I probably should look into restarting the shots up. The hope is you develop some kind of immunity to what your allergic to. My husband has allergies, but not severe enough to warrant having shots once a week.
I know I need the shots, but I really hate it. It means one more thing onto my schedule. I would take the normal clariton or nasal sprays, but those have nasty side-effects. Try working as a cashier with people's vegatables and your nose randomly starting to bleed. Not a pretty sight. A very embassaring one. It happened once or twice. I got a paid 20 minute break once because I couldn't get the nose bleed to stop.
There happened to be a doctor in line, whom was asked up to the office to figure out other techniques. He asked if I had been doing any drugs. I'm like, does "clariton and allergy medications count." That was when I learned that clariton has a common effect of drying the nose. So if your nose is dry already, and you take the medication. Your more likely to have nose bleeds.
I stopped the clariton, fewer nose bleeds and no more embarrasing pillow cases. My husband has only seen the day nose bleeds. Lucky for him he hasn't woken to pillows smeared and wet with blood. I pray to God that he never has to. My prayers are that this is a thing of the past and that I won't have to revisit these experiences or memories.
Anywho, I felt like venting about allergies because I'm seriously having major sinus problems right now.
