December 2013

Wow it's already December. For us Christmas is here. For those who celebrated Hanukkah. We hope it was pleasant and bright.

Let's See November.

November,Colin came home with some respiratory infection and Laura of course shared in the fun.  After a few weeks of coughing, we got out the nebulizing treatments. This seemed to help.  Along with adding Clariton to his regimented schedule. Since Thanskgiving he hasn't needed a breathing treatment which is lucky because we don't have a machine for him to use as an emergency. He does have an emergency option but he gets frustrated and doesn't really understand it so its not a very viable option at this point.

December
Colin has been in and out of daycare with only a couple due to getting sick from Laura. So the two of them have been playing a give and take game.    He has enjoyed the ability of watching movies and playing with his toys at the house while Mommy is at home.  Hope he doesn't get too use to this arrangement. He doesn't like the fact that Mommy can't get up and do a whole lot or that he can't go outside. But he doesn't seem to mind the fact the perk of being at home.

Laura's been home since the first week in December. The bronchial infection she got in November turned into a bad case of asthma. When going into get evaluated by an asthma and allergy specialist the numbers of spiros were dangerously low even with being on prednisone. So they jacked up the prednisone and medication to keep her out of the hospital with orders to stay out of work.  She with permission tried to go back to work the one Friday and ended up in the ER due to an allergic reaction with the medication.   She then received a second hit with another infection which meant more time off work. That infection landed in the lungs and her back in the ER. Her dreams and hopes of being off the prednisone before Christmas have been dashed. It has hasn't been her month of the year.

She apologizes for lack of Christmas cards and her normal holiday cheer being down. Maybe soon she will be able to be back to her normal self.  As for Abram. Well Abram has been a busy camper. He finished his fall classes. He is rounding out his work load to be able to enjoy the festivities. At his work party he won a gift card to the cheesecake factory.

He has been really a huge support to the family. Helping with doctors appointments and medication reminders and picking up the family spirit around here.  Colin has been down since Laura has become sick. Colin recently has not been himself at school. We think its the toll of all that he sees going on and not understanding. He's always been told going to the doctor makes you better. Its hard to explain to a 3 year old that its' not an automatic solution. We all wish it could be. At some point he will get it. Hopefully not before he loses hope in doctors. He seems to have a good attitude about drs and we don't want him to lose that spirit. It makes it so much easier to take in for a well check up. We don't want him to fear doctors office or think they don't really work.
