Well my parents took Colin shoe shopping. K. If you know anything about Colin it is this. He loves his shoes and he hates his feet being touched. With that being said, I felt this would be interesting. I think this was the worst of the shoe shopping experiences. It wouldn't be til later that I discovered why it was so terrible.
We headed to Stride Rite. Good prices and a variety of walking shoe sizes. When Colin got his first pair at 13 months of age. He was only a size 3. It was hard. We found ones at Ralph Laurens for kids. We don't shop that store, but after hitting every department store in the mall and every other footwear store and finding only size 5's we took a chance and walked in. I wasn't crazy with the selection and the shoe laces.
We decided to purchace and head to the other outlet shops in the area. We came upon a Stride Rite and were happy with the decision. Colin hated it. He screamed as he had with the other stores. We purchased shoes and then by the next morning he fell in love with his shoes. Pair two was months away. He got a size 4 in shoes. I seem to remember a not so happy kid (but not to bad). He fell in love with that pair of shoes.
Then last night they sized him. He was measured at a 5 1/2 to 6. So we went with the 6 to allow growth. He screamed when we pulled his shoes off. He cried to have the shoes put back on his feet. No not the new shoes. His old shoes. He had a melt down. You would have thought we were sticking needles in the kid. So we purchased a pair of shoes. Kept the new ones on and left the store. He calmed down in the car.
We ate dinner but he had a rough dinner. So we headed to drop my parents back at their place. A burp and he calmed down and actually started to fall asleep. So we headed home. He had a rough evening. Up and down several times. The next morning he cried for his shoes. So we brought the new ones over. He didnt fight with the right foot. So we put the left on and he began to scream and cry. He held the shoe.
I felt like it might be the shoe. Due to a concern that the stomach pains may be connected to problems he had last year and from family suggestion. We took Colin to see the doctors. Abram brought up the foot because I said it might be that his toe nails were bothering him. Well I was close. His left foot has an infection on the one toe (on the foot that he was complaining. A few weeks ago, we were cutting nails. This is the dreaded activity in the house hold. Colin hates his foot being touched. So he kicks and moves around. It takes two to get the nails and I almost think three poeple.
I tried my best not to hurt him but he got cut slightly from cutting a little too much. I guess when that happens it allows for infection to occur. So now he is on medication and we are to watch the toes. No wonder the little man freaked out. I felt bad, but as Abram reminded me. The foot redness wasn't the color that would be "red flag" but still I feel responsible. My error in a nail clipping resulted in his discomfort. I don't know why I didn't think to take the socks off and try. Oh well.
Lesson learned. Hope he feels better soon. I know he will.
