The October Update

My students are counting down to Halloween. Central PA does weird things with the holiday which makes it difficult when your trying to teach the calendar to students whom have such a hard time with the concept of time. Last year, when I marked Halloween up on the calendar. My one student had an argument because the week before trick or treating had occurred in her neighborhood. I'm still working on the explanation that any holiday can be celebrated early, but that doesn't mean the actual day for the holiday has passed or isn't real.
Last year we focused on how pumpkins grow in our classroom and learning the various parts of a pumpkin. After learning that all my students dress up and participate in the celebrations of Halloween I know that I am going to need to address the language for costumes and candy. We are scheduling a field trip with the Language Intensive Classrooms to go see the insides of a Fire house. This will be great since my students have picked up the vocabulary and language and have learned about Fire men. I learned a tool that gets used to open a door. It is called a K-Tool. It is really neat.
Abram has been busy as ever traveling back and forth between home, work, and school. We will be attending a wedding of a friend from college in Silver Springs, PA. I hope the weather stays nice for the event and I hope the bride is feeling better. She caught the flu the week before the wedding. Yuck! So I pray that she has had a quick recovery and has had the ability to enjoy some of the week.
